Dallas: Total Eclipse 2024

Yesterday we scoped out nearby parking lots, grassy strips, decks, etc. in a quest to find the best viewing spot in Dallas for the once-in-a-generation total eclipse across Texas. It turns out the rooftop deck in Benjamin's apartment complex was ideal. Bonus - chairs already there. We assembled our equipment - eclipse glasses, so as not to go blind. Binoculars, with solar film taped on. Snacks and water. Solar eclipse t-shirts. We arrived early, like astronomy geeks. More casual observers arrived as things got more exciting. The moon inched across the sun. The crowd grew. The 80 degree weather turned cooler, the sky got dusky, and then it happened. All turned dark midday and you could see the rays of the sun bursting out from the edges of the moon. We all took off our eclipse glasses for the 3 minutes 30 seconds of a total eclipse.
