The sisters do the Tinkerbell 5K

Sisters Alyce, Cindy and Betsy get up early, put on tutus.

No, it's not Disneyland at night, though the moon was still out.  My middle sister Cindy is a RunDisney veteran, and last year she convinced my older sister Alyce and I to take on the challenge of a run at dawn through Disneyland.  So here, we are, with wings, tutus and sparkly headbands, just before 5 a.m. on Main Street in Disneyland.  We are pumped and ready, along with several thousand other Disney enthusiasts.  Notice I didn't say "Disney fitness enthusiasts" because the dirty secret of the 5K is you can walk the course and still not be picked up by the Pinocchio truck, which is for those racers that are what, crawling?  That said, with a little dodging, you can still run the course.

So perky for 5 a.m.!!
The race starts with a walk around Sleeping Beauty's Castle and then a run through hidden Disney, (hello employee break room!), then an uncluttered visit through California Adventure as the sun rises over Hollywoodland and Radiator Springs and Paradise Pier.  We'd seen it all with the masses yesterday, but it feels completely different when you are runwalking it with the early birds in tights and costumes.

Alyce and Cindy display their wings just before sunrise.

One of the unique aspects of RunDisney is the costumed characters that get up at the crack of dawn to cheer you along the route and take your picture.   But I'm afraid we only saw a scraggly bunch of pirates at Paradise Pier.  I had to stop for a picture.

Fairy meets pirates.

Before we knew it, we were all done, though Cindy did demonstrate 10K pacing for me, should I choose to up my running game.

All done.  No sweat. Time for breakfast!
