Normandy – Bayeux – Lace Conservatory
Just across from the medieval Notre Dame Cathedral in Bayeux is a medieval art that is being revived by gentle French ladies. It is the art of making lace. Up to 1950, Bayeux was known for its exquisite hand made lace that adorned the noble ladies of France. The craft is being incrementally relearned. It involves dozens of bobbins and pins and hundreds of hours of labor. The piece this woman is working on will take 150 hours to finish. The Conservatorie de Dentelles (Lace) Bayeux is free to enter and open to the public with some lace souvenirs available for purchase.
